Here at St Mary’s, we teach both PSHE & RSE as part of the National Curriculum. This learning encourages and allows children to develop by building upon their emotional health and wellbeing.
We provide our children with opportunities that allow them to flourish both safely and healthily as well as opportunities for them to manage their academic, personal and social lives in a positive way.
Children will benefit from PSHE & RSE as it prepares them for a full range of experiences, challenges and responsibilities as they navigate their way through an increasingly complex world.
Our PSHE & RSE provision is taught using the Christopher Winter Project (CWP). From April 2021 when new legislation comes in to force, the school will also be using additional materials from the PSHE Association to support our long term planning.PSHE & RSE lessons align well to other subject areas such as science, RE,
Philosophy (P4C) and computing. In addition to this, aspects of teaching and learning in this area will be delivered through phase assemblies and through activities linked to themed days and weeks (eg: Friendship Week and Mental Health & Awareness Week). We will also be working with external agencies, including subject specialists to enhance the delivery of our PSHE & RSE curriculum.
